Dr. Grace Walker, physical and occupational therapist and nutritionist understands that life can be extremely stressful. Finding time to take care of yourself may be the last thing on your mind but we are here to tell you, this is no longer an option!
Vanity Fair recently released an interview with actress, Angelina Jolie, revealing her diagnosis of Bell’s Palsy last year. Bell’s Palsy is a type of temporary facial paralysis caused by damage to the facial nerve. This inhibits signals to and from the nerve causing drooping on either side of the face. Bell’s Palsy has been linked to high amounts of stress and people with high blood pressure, like Jolie, are vulnerable.
“Sometimes women in families put themselves last, until it manifests itself in their own health.” Says Jolie.
Symptoms appear suddenly and reach their peak within 24 hours and may include one or a combination of the following:
- Impaired speech
- Droopiness of the eyes or mouth (compared to opposite side)
- Excessive salivation
- Dry mouth
- Loss of taste
- Inability to eat or drink properly
- Sensitivity to sound
